The meaning of roses are very important. After all, you would hate to give someone a nice bouquet and have them come away thinking you're just friends, if you wanted to get romantic! It's especially critical when you are considering Valentine's Day roses. The color and number of roses that you give have special significance and symbolism. Learn what each color represents, and how many you should give to express your innermost feelings. Click on colors to get more information:

Lets look at the meaning of color first.

Red: Red is the symbol of love. To give red roses says "I love you still"
White: Shows purity and innocence. They also represent humility, youthfulness and charm.
Blue: Unobtainable, impossible love.
Pink: To give pink roses shows grace, joy, and gratitude. Pale pink also has the meaning of fun attached to it.
Orange: Desire and enthusiam. These would be a great choice to give to someone if you want the relationship to develop further.
Yellow: Joy and friendship - yellow roses don't specifically show love. They can also represent starting over,or a new beginning. Yellow tipped with red shows friendship falling in love.
Brown: Earth or wood. They can also mean friendship or appreciation.
Purple: Enchantment, mystery, or royalty.

The number of roses that you give is important. Convey the right message by giving the correct number of roses!

Also known as the Christmas Star and Christmas Flower, it ís said that this winter flower's association with Christmas comes from a Mexican legend. The story goes that a child, with no means for a grander gift, gathered humble weeds from the side of the road to place at the church alter on Christmas Eve. As the congregation witnessed a Christmas miracle, the weeds turned into brilliant red and green flowers.

Named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, first United States ambassador to Mexico and the amateur botanist who introduced the plant to the U.S. in 1825, the poinsettia is also known as Mexican Flame Leaf, Winter Rose, Noche Buena and, in Turkey, Atakurkís Flower, because it was the favorite flower of Atakurk, the founder of modern Turkey.

While considered by the ancient Aztecs to be symbols of purity, in today's language of flowers, red, white or pink poinsettias, the December birth flower, symbolize good cheer and success and are said to bring wishes of mirth and celebration.

Viral Video Contest, Briarcrest wins out! Pugh's Flowers Memphis

Pugh's Flowers held it's first ever viral video contest open to all area high schools. Winning prize was $2500 for the video submitted that got the most views. This was a great way to get involved with local schools and see the creativity that is brewing in the youth of our city. We had a wonderful response and some outstanding videos were submitted! We presented the check to Briarcrest's theater arts department last week with WMC-TV present to film the ceremony. Michael Pugh spoke to the student body during their chapel time and then the winning video was shown. Everyone loved the video! We plan on having this competition again next year so tell your school about this opportunity to learn about film making and possibly win $2500. Our first ever floral design class called Flower Hour was a blooming success! We raised over $1000 dollars for Susan G. Komen 3-day for the Cure and had a blast. The evening was started with champagne and appetizers hosted by Leah Walker, Susan G. Komen team member. Michael Pugh led a floral arranging demonstration, followed by a hands-on session where participants created their own fresh flower designs. Door prizes were given away throughout the night and everyone got to take home their very own floral creation. A wonderful time was had by all! We will do it again.

On July 4th the United States of America will celebrate it's 235th Birthday! On this day in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, starting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a Sovereign nation. This holiday is celebrated with parades, fireworks, and barbecues around country.

Fun facts about the Fourth maybe you didn't know....

John Hancock was the only one of the 56 signers of the Declaration to sign on July 4th, 1776. The others signed on August 2nd, 1776.

Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the National animal but was out voted when John Adams and Thomas Jefferson chose the Bald Eagle.

Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag in May or June 1776.

The stars on the Original American flag were arranged in a circle to ensure that all colonies were equal. There were thirteen of them to represent the thirteen colonies.

Uncle Sam was actually Samuel Wilson, a meat packer who provided meat to the U.S. Army in 1812. The meat shipments were stamped U.S. Someone joked that the initials stood for " Uncle Sam." The joke eventually led to the idea of Uncle Sam symbolizing the U.S. Government.

The National Anthem is actually set to the tune of an old English drinking song called " To Anacreon in Heaven."

The words " Under God" were not added to the Pledge Of Allegiance until 1954.

The Fourth of July was not declared a National Holiday until the year 1941.

The first Fourth of July celebration was held at the White House in 1801.

John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe all died on the Fourth. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died in 1826 and James Monroe died in 1831.

In July 1776 the Nation's population was about 2.5 million. Today it is about 309.6 million.

74 million Americans took part in a BBQ on the Fourth last year. Traditionally Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Ribs, Garden salads, Potato Salad, Chips and Watermelon are the most served foods on the Fourth.

Over 150 million Hot Dogs will be consumed on this day. That's one Hot Dog for every two people in the country.

Nearly 349 million dollars are used each year to import Flags, banners, decorations and emblems from China.

Almost 211 million dollars of fireworks are imported from China for the Fourth each year.

The color red itself evolved from an early primal symbol for life into a metaphor for deep emotion. In Greek and Roman mythology the red rose was closely tied to the goddess of love. National Secretaries Week was created in 1952 through the efforts of Harry F. Klemfuss, a New York publicist.Working in conjunction with the National Secretaries Association, later known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals, Klemfuss wanted to encourage more people to consider careers in the secretarial/administrative support field.

The official period of celebration was first proclaimed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Charles Sawyer as "National Secretaries Week," which was held June 1–7 in 1952, with Wednesday, June 4, 1952 designated National Secretaries Day. The first Secretaries Day was sponsored by the National Secretaries Association with the support of corporate groups.

In 1955, the observance date of National Secretaries Week was moved to the last full week of April. The name was changed to Professional Secretaries Week in 1981, and became Administrative Professionals Week in 2000 to encompass the expanding responsibilities and wide-ranging job titles of administrative support staff.

Modern celebration

Over the years, Administrative Professionals Week has become one of the largest workplace observances. The event is celebrated worldwide through community events, social gatherings, and individual corporate activities recognizing support staff with gifts. President's Day, Pugh's Flowers Memphis

According to the Gregorian or "New Style" calendar that is in use today, George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, but according to the Julian or "Old Style" calendar that was in effect in England and her colonies until 1752, his birth date was February 11th. (This is because the new calendar added eleven days to the old date to bring the calendar year into step with the astronomical year.) So back in the 1790s, while Washington was still alive, some Americans celebrated his birthday on February 11th and some on February 22nd.
Along came Abraham Lincoln, another famous US president, who was also deserving of a special day of recognition. The only problem was that he was born on February 12th, and so now we found ourselves with two presidential birthdays that fell within a short time of one another. Prior to 1968, this fact didn't seem to bother anyone and things were running along pretty smoothly in the birthday celebration department -- February 22nd was observed as a federal public holiday to honor the birthday of George Washington and February 12th was observed as a public holiday (in most states) to honor the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.
Then things changed. In 1968, the 90th Congress was determined to create a uniform system of federal Monday holidays, so they voted to shift three existing holidays (including Washington's Birthday) to Mondays. The law took effect in 1971. As a result, Washington's Birthday holiday was changed from its fixed February 22 date to the third Monday in February. This change was not without controversy. There was some concern that Washington's identity would be lost (since the third Monday in February would never fall on his birth date of February 22nd). There was also an attempt to rename the public holiday "Presidents' Day", but this stalled in committee. "It was the collective judgment of the Committee on the Judiciary," stated Mr. William Moore McCulloch (R-Ohio) "that this [naming the day "President's Day"] would be unwise. Certainly, not all Presidents are held in the same high esteem as the Father of our Country. There are many who are not inclined to pay their respects to certain Presidents. Moreover, it is probable that the members of one political party would not relish honoring a President from the other political party whether he was in office, no matter how outstanding history may find his leadership."
The single holiday observance meant that the traditional 10-day separation between Washington's Birthday (February 22) and Lincoln's Birthday (February 12) had essentially been eliminated. However, while Congress had created a uniform federal holiday law, there was not a uniform holiday title agreement among the individual states. Even though most states with individual holidays honoring Washington and Lincoln shifted their state recognition date of Washington's Birthday to correspond to the third Monday in February, some states, including California, Idaho, Tennessee, Texas and others, chose not to retain the federal holiday title and renamed their state holiday "President's Day."
From that point forward, the growing use of the term Presidents' Day was largely a marketing phenomenon, as advertisers sought a catchall phrase to capitalize on the opportunity for three-day or weeklong sales. Gradually, the phrase "Presidents' Day" took hold and today has become part of the everyday vernacular. Interestingly, in 1999, bills were introduced in both the U.S. House (HR-1363) and Senate (S-978) to specify that the legal public holiday once referred to as Washington's Birthday be "officially" called by that name once again. Both bills died in committees.
If you are a traditionalist, you'll be happy to know that even though Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday have been replaced on the federal holiday register with a single day, many communities continue to observe the original holidays by staging pageants and reenactments of important milestones in the lives of Washington and Lincoln. The National Park Service features a number of historic sites and memorials to honor the lives of these two presidents, and therefore it is not surprising to find that many of the birthday observance activities and events are held at many of these locations.

Organic Texture
Don’t be afraid to add a little organic texture to your sumptuous flower designs. Buds, branches, and berries are going to be used in abundance this year. There are so many different organic, seasonal items that can be incorporated into your bridal designs, why limit your designs to flowers?

In the fall, crimson leaves, fresh Massachusetts bittersweet branches and clusters of juicy red grapes make stunning additions to any centerpiece or bridal hand held. In the winter, when local flowers are scarce in many areas, why not try to include velvety brown magnolia leaves, fiddlehead fern fronds, or accents of a deep red blueberry branch. After the death of a close friend or family member, those in mourning need a support system of people comforting and nurturing them through one of life's most painful episodes. Most of us are anxious to find some way to help soon after we hear the news of someones passing. Nothing is more appropriate than the age old tradition of sending funeral flowers. Grief therapists agree that the rituals surrounding death, aid the grieving process.

Flowers for non-traditional services
Changing trends in how we commemorate deaths in this country has added some confusion about traditional funeral customs and funeral etiquette. Flowers have traditionally been sent to the funeral home for display during the viewing/visitation and funeral service. However, if no service is held, it does not mean that there should be no show of sympathy. In instances where there is no service, experts recommend sending condolences to the homes of the bereaved.

Cremations: Urns and cremation boxes can be accentuated with appropriate floral tributes. A small wreath or garland for these containers is appropriate and can even be incorporated into a larger floral arrangement. An array of coordinating baskets and sprays can also be placed around the container. When ashes are scattered on water, sympathy wreaths, loose flowers and flower petals are often tossed onto the waters surface.

Memorials: Places of significance, such as the podium where readings will be performed, a table displaying remembrances such as photos or special mementos and even a cemetery monument, can be adorned with flowers. Depending on the particular focal area, garlands, sympathy arrangements in vases or baskets and sympathy sprays are all appropriate choices. Just as flowers add softness and warmth to the surroundings, live plants displayed around an area can create a peaceful garden setting. Dish gardens and plants can be sent to the homes of family members of the deceased. Chrysanthemums or flowering shrubs such as azaleas are also good choices.

Ceremonial placement: A tragic death may be memorialized near the site where it occurred. Trees, markers, fences or other objects in the area can be adorned with floral decorations, such as garlands, wreaths or bouquets. Oftentimes attendees will place individual stems of flowers like roses at the ceremonial location.

Too late for the funeral
At one time or another it will happen to the best of us. The funeral was today at 10 a.m. and you just heard about it. Do not despair. It is considered proper funeral etiquette to send flowers to family members of the deceased at their residences. In fact, it is appropriate to send flowers, plants and sympathy gifts up to a month after the funeral services. Some people actually prefer to send funeral flowers at a later date. Although the initial outpouring of sympathy is a great comfort, eventually the chaos subsides, friends and relatives return home and reality sets in. At this point, many people feel lost and alone. Consider sending flowers or a plant with a personalized sympathy card that reads Im here if you need me." The bereaved will know you are still thinking of them and they can count on your support.

A rustic basket of wildflowers incorporating branches and natural materials is a perfect choice to honor someone who loved the outdoors. Be prepared to give the florist a few hints about the person you want to memorialize. Highly-personalized sympathy tributes might even include a sheaf of wheat in an arrangement for a farmer or a ball of yarn and knitting needles for someone who liked to knit. Toys can be used for adults and children alike. For instance, a semi-truck could be added to flowers for a truckers funeral or a teddy bear for a childs service. Dream Factory Mission Statement

The Dream Factory grants dreams to children diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses who are 3 through 18 years of age.

Dream Criteria

In order for a child to be considered eligible to receive a dream, he or she must meet the following criteria:

Is 3 through 18 years of age.
Has a critical or chronic illness which must be verified on the application by the child's primary physician.
Has not received a dream from another wish-granting organization.
The dream must be the child's dream and not that of a parent, guardian or other concerned party. The child must be able to communicate the dream to a Dream Factory representative.

History & Background

The Dream Factory of Memphis is a non profit, 100% volunteer organization dedicated to granting the Dreams of critically and chronically ill children ages of three through eighteen. The Dream Factory grants dreams without regard to race, color, creed, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or economic status.

Stephen Douglas founded the Dream Factory of Memphis in the summer of 1985. While organizing the Memphis Chapter he was fighting his own personal battle with Hodgkin's disease. Although Steve died shortly after the Dream Factory became a reality, his legacy has been perpetuated by a dedicated group of volunteers that continues to make Steve's dream come true.

Since its inception, The Dream Factory of Memphis has granted nearly 450 dreams to children throughout the Mid-South and from countries as far away as Chile. The average dream costs approximately $3,500, which has included computers, a new puppy, meeting a sports/music/television celebrity, entertainment centers, etc. Our single most popular dream is a family trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida to meet Mickey Mouse.

The Dream Factory of Memphis is funded through private donations from individuals and corporations, along with fund raising events sponsored by local civic organizations to benefit the Dream Factory or by the Memphis Chapter itself. Approximately 92 cents out of every net dollar is used for granting dreams. The remaining 8% is used for general and administrative cost and national dues to fund our Headquarters in Louisville, KY

Below is a fun way to decorate on Movie Night.

Pop Corn Rah! - Recipe by Jill Slater

Materials:
	1 Novelty popcorn container 1 brick floral foam 6 or 7 stems white Fuji Chrysanthemums Floral clippers, knife and floral food/preservative
Directions:
	Step 1 - Soak the foam for about 30 minutes in water that has been treated with floral preservative.
	Step 2 - Fill the novelty popcorn container with floral foam.
	Step 3 - Cut the chrysanthemums to about 4-inches in length.
	Step 4 - Insert the flowers into the foam so that just their blossoms poke out from the rim of the container. This is a fun idea for those nights when take out is in order. Make it fun and romantic by mixing roses with the traditional take out containers. FLOWERS CAN BE FUN!

One Cent Postage, 1906

Delphinium (Delphinium)

Flight of fancy; Ardent attachment

Origins
The Delphinium genus, part of the Ranunculaceae family, includes more than 300 species of flowers native to the northern hemisphere. Delphiniums belong to the same family as larkspurs.

Availability and Vase Life
Most delphiniums are available year-round from domestic and international sources. The flowers are usually blue or lavender, but they also come in white, red and yellow. Delphiniums' vase life ranges from 7-14 days, depending on care-and-handling practices.

Care and Handling
Upon receipt, cut delphiniums' stems under water in a clean underwater cutter or sink. Delphiniums are particularly ethylene sensitive, so keep them away from fruit and other ethylene emitting material.

Design Uses
Delphiniums make ideal additions to garden-style arrangements. Their shapes give them a nice look when gathered in a simple glass vase, or used as an accent to other garden flowers.

Colors: Lavender, blue, purple, pink, red, and white.

Love this postcard for Idlewild Greenhouses. They were located at East and Eastmoreland in Memphis, TN. They have been out of business for years but what a great concept, have the greenhouse right next to the flower shop. There is no date on this card but it was collected and stored with another card that is from 1941, so my assumption is that it's from that same time period. Anybody have more info on Idlewild?

Flower of the Week, the Rose

The origin of the rose dates back to pre-historic times. In fact there is a fossilized rose in the Smithsonian Museum, that was found in Florissant, Colorado. That makes the rose as American as the bald eagle. The rose was declared our National Floral Emblem in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan.

Throughout history, the rose has been the inspiration of great works of art, literature, and music, and has been called the "queen of flowers". It is most often associated with love, and appropriately it is the flower of June, the wedding month.

Old garden roses began to lose their popularity in the latter part of the 19th century, taking a backseat to the very competitive hybrid tea roses. Thankfully collectors started to preserve them in their gardens before they completely disappeared, as many have survived in family cemeteries.

The old garden roses are now resurging in popularity, as their hardiness and varied fragrant characteristics are being rediscovered.

How to care for your fresh rose arrangement:

Check the water supply immediately upon arrival. Add lukewarm water as needed. For best results, use floral preservative, if provided. Mix the preservative with room temperature water, in the proportion recommended on the package. If floral foam is used, make sure it is always thoroughly saturated. Check your arrangement daily to make sure it has plenty of clear, fresh water.

Display your arrangement in a cool location, out of direct sunlight and away from electrical appliances. Avoid particularly hot or cold areas.

To rearrange any flowers, re-cut the stem ends under water using a sharp knife or scissors. Then, insert each flower back into the arrangement. If floral foam is used, be sure to insert the stems firmly and deeply.

1911 is the date that this postcard was mailed from one sister to another. It was mailed to Leslie, Arkansas with the comment that the girl looks like the recipient. Poplar Avenue, almost back to normal

Well if you live in Memphis you know Poplar Ave. and how busy that one road is. One of the Pugh's Flowers locations is right on Poplar, at Brookfield which is right by the I-240 junction. Due to a city road expansion project Poplar is getting wider, right out in front of our store. You surely have seen all the mess while they have been working on it and you most likely wanted to pull your hair out. Power, cable and phone systems have been cut off and on for a month now but I think we are on our last mile of this construction marathon. Thanks for your patience and please come and see us soon!

Flower of the Week, the Wildflower

Well after visiting the beautiful landscapes of Northern California I am inspired by the many wildflowers growing with ease in the dry climate of California. Hiking the coastal ranges makes it easy to see many fantastic blooms that seemingly sprout up without effort. I know there are literally thousands of wildflower varieties and some are very rare. The great Smoky Mountains also offer a lot of wildflower varieties and are a lot closer to Memphis.

Here is another picture from the Northern California trip. I visited a Lavender field which is located at the base of Mt. Shasta, on the lava flow side. It was very beautiful and I brought back some hand-picked lavender. This picture is courtesy of Jen Howell, see more pics on her blog.

1905 American Beauty Rose Vintage Postcard

There are so many to choose from but this one's dated 1905 and was made by Buckbee Rockford Seed Farms to show off the American Beauty Rose. The gladiolus is an easy-to-grow flower, especially valued for use in floral arrangements. Gladioli produce tall spikes of large blossoms, in a rainbow of colors. Only clear, true blue is missing; white, pink, red, purple, yellow, orange, salmon, and even green gladioli are available, along with many bi-colors.

"Glads" grow from corms (bulb-like structures) that are not winter-hardy in Minnesota. They must either be dug in September and stored until planting time the following May, or replaced annually. Some gladiolus experts recommend treating them as annuals because you are more likely to get large, healthy blooms each year that way, and you don't have to fuss with storing them.

Caring for Bouquets
Bring a sharp knife or florist's shears and a tall bucket of lukewarm water to the garden with you. Cut the flower spikes first thing in the morning or at night, not during the heat of day. Cut spikes with only one, two, or possibly three flowers open; the rest will open in order, up the spike. Allow at least four leaves to remain on the plant if you wish to re-use the corms.

Cut diagonally through the stalk and place it in the lukewarm water immediately. Once you've collected all the glads you want cut, put the bucket in a cool, dark place for a few hours so the blooms "harden off". Use floral preservative in the vase water before arranging the glads. As lower flowers fade, nip them off. Cut about an inch of stem off the bottom of each spike every few days.

98 Year old Postcard

This week's postcard is from 1911. It is embossed as so many from that time period were and has gold imprinting as well. This is a fantastic historical example dated from when our country only had 15 states, notice only 15 stars on the flag. This card also has references to the civil war with it's soldiers gear and badge. Happy Birthday America!

The Hawaiian Lei History

Hawaii and the flower lei are practically synonymous. The lei is the perfect symbol to represent the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands and the spirit of aloha shared throughout Oahu, Maui, Lanai, Kauai, Molokai, Niihau, Kahoolawe and the Big Island of Hawaii. Most people have seen a flower lei – either during a visit or on TV. If you haven’t had the privilege of wearing one, you simply must make a point to celebrate your next visit to the islands with one of many beautiful flower lei types. Fragrant leis, like the pikake lei, present a treat for the senses as well as a genuine feeling of welcome.
Orchid, pikake, plumeria, ohia lehua and maile leis are just a few of the many varieties fashioned in Hawaii. Although most recognizable leis are made from fresh flowers, a lei can be strung from feathers, foliage, shells, seeds, dried flowers, candy, or many other materials. A flower lei is usually crafted using a steel needle and string, but may also utilize strategic braiding, knotting and threading techniques.

A lei is an extra special gift, as it carries not only a blessing and tangible beauty, but also represents the giving of time, as each one is hand-woven with care. Leis may be worn around the neck or the brim of a hat (lei papale). Some leis are very intricately designed with patterns of alternating flowers strung delicately to create a lei that will last for days with refrigeration.The lei of today are different from the lei of ancient Hawaii. With the number of indigenous flowers and plants dwindling, lei makers must use readily available materials. When one receives a lei made from a rare flower or a flower that grows in remote areas, it is considered a high honor.

Some leis, as in the ones created for the towering statute of King Kamehameha at Aliiolani Hale on Oahu, are several feet in length and may take hours or even days to complete.

Lei Etiquette

A lei is bestowed on another for many reasons – it can symbolize love, friendship, welcoming, affection, parting, a wish for safety, congratulations, graduation, union of marriage, health, birth, transition in death and many other messages of peace. There is no age restriction to be a lei recipient. Today, a kiss on the cheek may also accompany the giving of lei, although this practice was not customary in ancient Hawaii.

To place a lei correctly, it should fall equally on the chest and back, as opposed to being hung straight down from the neck. Whatever the occasion, birthday, wedding, anniversary, or other, a lei is a common part of any celebration in Hawaii. During high school or college graduation days in the islands, family and friends present the graduate with many lei, and often the proud student can barely see over the numerous neck garlands! Local tradition says that a lei recipient should not remove a lei while in the presence of the lei giver.

Lei are used in many facets of life in Hawaii, from tourism to religious and political events. The governor of Hawaii and other important figures may wear a lei during public appearances, state holidays, or on a daily basis.

Week three's flower is the rose. The rose is probably the most widely used flower to help people express their feelings. It's beautiful, sturdy, long lasting and has great history. They are fairly easy to grow at home. There are so many varieties that it's hard to list or even find out about them all. Memphis is a great climate for growing the climbing rose and they are hearty and thriving this time of the year. Got any great new ideas for rose uses? Vintage Loving Greetings Postcard

This postcard is dated 1910 and was sent to my great grandmother from a friend. Flowers were widely used back at the turn of the century to express feelings. Flowers today are still as widely used to help make people feel better. More postcards to come next week.

Flower of the Week #2.

This week's flower is the hydrangea, which are in full bloom all over the place. Hydrangeas do great when cut and brought into the house and can last a good while. They are also perfect to dry out and use for years to come in dried flower arrangements. Hydrangeas are one of the most beautiful and elegant flowers, widely used in weddings and entertainement venues. The color of the hydrangea can be changed by adding lime to the soil to change the level of ph. Most common colors range from light pink to a deep purple. If you bring in a hydrangea and find it is hosting insects a safe method to rid the bugs is let the flower bloom sit outside in water and the bugs will swim away. This method also hydrates the flower and will help it last longer after being cut.

Here is our first installment of a new weekly post where we feature a different flower every week. This week's flower is the Lily. Pictured above is the Stargazer Lily, which is widely used for floral arrangements because of it's large and showy bloom. This flower is great in vased arrangements as well as funeral tribute sprays for a dramatic effect. Most varieties of lilys are very fragrant so they are not recommended for the highly allergic individual. For detailed info go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilium.

It is very helpful to gently remove the pollen from the bloom to prevent a potentially staining residue. If pollen dust falls onto a petal it can be carefully dusted away with the rounded end of a pipe cleaner. Overall the lily is a great flower and is one of the most popular for it's longevity and beauty.
